![]() By the mid 2000s, the Transformers toyline and ancillary fiction began incorporating a few sly winks to its old competitor. The GoBots were largely forgotten, even after Hasbro bought Tonka in 1991. The line limped into 1986 with a hastily-produced feature film, Battle of the Rock Lords, a commercial and critical flop that more or less signalled the end of the GoBots. Although the GoBots were cheaper and thus more desirable (at least for parents), the line was outdone by the Transformers, who sported descriptive bios, diverse transformations, and a massive cast. While Challenge of the GoBots initially held up well against the initial onslaught of Transformers paraphernalia, the line began to flag in 1985. ![]() The only "themes" to a faction are that anything that turns into a monstrous-looking robot or vehicle is a Renegade and their type of voice: the Guardians have booming, echoing voices while the Renegades have a more electronic sound to them. Likewise, there's no commonality of design within each faction. The characters, as well as the toys, have no identifying insignias or markings to indicate their allegiance, although it's clearly indicated on the packaging. GoBots have no clear divide between the two factions. Other characters rotate in "guest-star" roles. Cy-Kill, Cop-Tur and Crasher), who are virtually ever-present. Warpath's Cybertronian-style body in the "Cataclysm universe" is modeled on Classics Divebomb.The series generally focuses on the "lead" three robots from each faction (Leader-1, Turbo and Scooter vs.Warpath and his fellow Decepticon recruit, Clutch, are both Super GoBots toys who debuted too late to make an appearance in the Challenge of the GoBots cartoon.Turbo and Spay-C tried to intervene while the former tackled Water Walk, Warpath was able to evade Spay-C, who was knocked off-line by Thruster's defenses. When Thruster travelled to Gobotron's organic core-in fact the long-forgotten planet Earth-he was sent out along with Water Walk to gather primitive humans for Cy-Kill's "experiments", using a large net to scoop up a dozen of them. Warpath was one of Cy-Kill's Renegades, long after the fall of humanity. Warpath and Clutch were present when Galvatron destroyed Zero, and nervously accepted him as the new ruler of the Renegades and Decepticons. Warpath existed in a tangled universal stream where Sideways and Gong were deliberately blending elements of the GoBots and the Transformers. When asked about the origin universes of Clutch and Warpath according to the TransTech universal stream system, Vector Prime declined to answer. Opportunity Knocks Part 2 Cy-Kill would later remark upon how well Clutch and Warpath were fitting in with the Renegades. Renegade Rhetoric 1 As they arrived on Level 1 in the midst of a Guardian/Renegade struggle, Clutch and Warpath helped rescue Spoons and Stretch from their Guardian attackers. ![]() At Cy-Kill's command, Gong transported them to Cy-Kill's home universal stream. ![]() Renegade Rhetoric 6 After the successful raid of Shockwave's lab, the Axiom Nexus Renegades were found by the Offworlder Zone Security Administration. Warpath and Cy-Kill fought against Fright Face's Predacons in the Heap before Cy-Kill secured their loyalty to the cause. Cy-Kill believed he and Blades would make excellent compatible partners once they returned to Level 1. He was recruited into the Renegade cause by Cy-Kill during his time in the offworlder sector, and helped Cy-Kill recruit new Renegades and acquire useful technology. Warpath was a Decepticon hailing from an unknown universal stream when Cy-Kill found him in Axiom Nexus. ![]()
